Booker High School is located on the north end of Sarasota County, and the new $58 million campus was opened in the winter of 2013. The new campus is replete with state-of-the-art classrooms and studios, technology and science labs, and athletic facilities, along with a professional-quality theatre.
In addition to the students districted to the school, BHS has a Visual & Performing Arts magnet Program that attracts students from around Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties. The VPA Program provides rigorous pre-professional instruction in dance, digital film and motion design, music, theatre, and visual art. The VPA season includes more than a dozen events on our main stage and art studios, and the events and work done through the VPA program have earned the school wide acclaim. Some notable VPA graduates are American Idol Finalist Syesha Mercado, NBC's Chicago Fire star Charlie Barnett, and Oscar winning makeup artist Bill Corso.
