The preserve’s walking trails will lead you under a canopy of oaks, red maple, hackberry, and American elm.
Visitors may see woodpeckers, box turtles, red-shouldered hawks, barred owls and an assortment of songbirds.
The preserve offers visitors 1.5-miles of shade covered, trails which are unpaved but accessible for most visitors.
Water, sunblock, a rain jacket, insect repellant and sturdy shoes are recommended for hiking.
Because of the habitat found here, most of the trails experience flooding seasonally and after heavy rainfall and may be inaccessible during wet periods.
Parking for the preserve near the preserve's east entrance at the 17th Street Paw Park.
