Family Fishing Clinic at The Bay Preserve at Osprey

Join us for an exciting fishing clinic designed for both children and adults! No fishing experience is necessary for this introductory program. Our instructors will teach you how to tie an improved clinch knot, the art of casting, and tips for ethical angling in Florida, the fishing capital of the world! We will provide all the necessary fishing equipment, including rods, tackle, and frozen shrimp so you can cast your line into the waters of Little Sarasota Bay and practice catch-and-release fishing techniques.
Participants may provide their own fishing gear if desired. The beginning of the training will be in a classroom where we will review fishing essentials, tie basic knots, and learn how to understand Florida's fishing regulations. Then we will go outside to practice casting on land before we venture onto the dock and try to catch a big one! The program will end with free fishing time on the dock at Bay Preserve.
This program is sponsored by the Florida Youth Conservation Centers Network, which generously provides fishing equipment for participants to borrow.
This program is suitable for children of all ages and their families. A parent or guardian is required to stay on-site to assist and supervise their child(ren) for the duration of the program. All participants must sign a liability waiver.
Participants should bring a water bottle and wear clothing appropriate for the weather. We recommend sun protection, bug spray, and closed-toe shoes, no flip-flops. You may wish to bring a picnic lunch or a snack to enjoy on the lawn after the program. Restrooms and a water fountain are available on site.
A $5 dollar donation per child is suggested for this program. Your gift will help us save wild places and continue to engage people in nature. We greatly appreciate your support!
